Why be Aware of Synthetic Fragrances?
Recently, Arlene S. from Maryland told us that her veterinarian advised her to stop using products from another allegedly natural cleaning company for this very reason. The vet explained that the great scent in the dish liquid came from chemicals – and she advised not to use this for the pets, or for the people!
What are Synthetic Fragrances?
Synthetic fragrances ("fragrance boosters") have been around since the late 19th century in the development of perfumes. Made primarily from petrochemicals, they attempt to simulate the scents of specific plants. Many products today, from soap to garbage bags to cleaning products contain these chemical scents without us even realizing. Currently, the FDA does not require fragrance components to be listed on labels, despite the impacts on human health. These toxins are often hidden under the generic term "fragrance."

While the proliferation of synthetic fragrances is primarily due to their less expensive cost, residual strength and consistent and customizable scents, their liabilities in terms of health are not being disclosed with the right amount of caution.
